We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to our team at Packard Dental in Carlsbad, CA – Dr. Joy Magtanong-Madrid, DDS. Dr. Joy’s journey to becoming a dentist began at the tender age of 7, when she found herself playing assistant during her siblings’ dental appointments. This early passion set the stage for a lifelong commitment to dentistry.
Dr. Joy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilization from the University of California, Irvine, in 2004. She then pursued her childhood dream and earned her doctorate from the esteemed University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 2011. Her dedication and excellence were recognized with her induction into the prestigious dental honor societies of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Tau Kappa Omega.
With over a decade of experience, Dr. Joy has been shaping the future of dentistry by teaching restorative dentistry and local anesthesia to first-year dental students while also providing exceptional patient care in private practice. Her involvement with the California Dental Association and participation in community outreach programs like CDA Cares highlight her commitment to giving back and making a difference in the community.
In September 2022, Dr. Joy took on a personal and heroic role by donating a kidney to her mother. By June 2023, she, along with her family, decided to return to their hometown of San Diego, after spending fifteen enriching years in San Francisco.
Outside the office, Dr. Joy cherishes time with her high school sweetheart, Fred, and their three wonderful children – Toby (age 11), Addy (age 9), and Amaris (age 6). As a family, they love exploring the vibrant and sunny San Diego area, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Dr. Joy is eager to join Dr. Matt, her classmate from dental school, and the rest of the Packard Dental team. Together, they are dedicated to providing the highest level of patient care, focusing not only on exceptional clinical skills but also on patient education and creating a unique and welcoming dental experience.
